Of Notes & Neurons

Attention all brain nerds, music lovers, and brain loving music nerds:

Thanksgiving is approaching. We are approaching Thanksgiving. And we all know what that means: being overwhelmed by relatives you didn’t know you had as they harass you about your future, your major, and whatever else they’ve read about you on Facebook.

“So, I saw that you recently ‘checked-in’ at UCSD’s Geisel Library at 9pm last Friday night. Is that some new night club that they opened on campus, dear? ”

Yes, Aunt Sally. That’s exactly what it is.

But in all seriousness, before heading home for the holidays, make sure that your intellectual arsenal is equipped with a few new and interesting facts guaranteed to impress those relatives at dinner. You know, make it sound like you’re actually reading those $150 textbooks. Don’t feel up to reading? Check out this video from the 2009 World Science Festival, Of Notes & Neurons. They talk about some pretty cool stuff involving the brain and music. If you don’t have time for the whole thing, (because you have to get ready to roll out to Club Geisel for the night), I’d recommend Parts 2 and 4.
